Knights of Columbus
Faith, family, and fraternity make up the foundation upon which the Knights of Columbus stand. An international organization of Catholic men and their families, the Knights are dedicated to the concepts of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The Knights promote the Catholic faith, support the clergy, promote charitable work among the faithful, and provide social fellowship amoung the members. Our programs make a difference in the community. The organization meets on a regular basis and is open to any Catholic man 18 years or olders.

Just as we had hoped for and mentioned in last months letter, October is turning out to be a very busy… and successful time for our council. We have had several activities and events already!
October started out with a Pro-Life breakfast fund raiser, which benefits 3 different worthy organizations. From your generosities and our culinary efforts Birthline, Sarah’s Hope, & Girrard House will receive approximately $200.00 for their needs in assisting those women who are in difficult situations during and after their pregnancies. These women who choose life for their unborn children are always appreciative and thankful for the kind of help such organizations as these provide. It is our duty and pleasure to donate to their efforts as they give so much to so many in crisis and hardships.
Then, the incredible Tootsie Roll Campaign… WOW! The men of St. Jude council put on a record breaking effort this year. We added two new locations to distribute tootsie rolls and accept donations for the annual support of the Knights of Columbus Special Olympics Basketball tournament in Hays, Kansas. This yearly event hosted by the State K. of C. underwrites the facilities costs and many of the travel expenses for so many of the young and not so young special needs athletes who try so hard to compete and be a winner in their hearts and minds. To us they are all winners! 5 local organizations whose services give members of our community with intellectual difficulties the special assistance and care required to live and love that most of us take for granted every day. These 5 are; ARC of Sedgwick County, New Horizons, Starkey, Project Independence, and The Ministries
with Persons with Disabilities. A check for $600.00 will be
distributed to each of them, and may GOD continue blessing their work!
Brother David Close, who is forming the St. Jude Squires Circle, has asked for interest and support in hosting a Classic Car Show for the first event of the Squires. They hope to have information coming soon as to the dates and details for the event. David is a member of St. Jude and can be contacted through the parish directory if you have questions. The show will have prizes and proceeds will go to benefit community projects.
St. Jude K of C is growing. We are hosting another 1st degree initiation at our December meeting night. Several men have signed up to become members in the greatest Fraternal Catholic Family service organization in existence. More than 35,000 Kansas Catholic men are members in the 256 and growing councils in the state. The October membership efforts will continue thru every month of the year and grow the members numbers, which equate to greater service to our parishes, our communities, our families, and our especially our priests and religious. We are always interested in inviting all men 18 years or above to consider joining us in our works of Charity, with Unity, and Fraternity. This sometimes is work….. but, it is always a lot of fun and rewarding in how and who we are helping. Please consider yourself, as active Catholic gentlemen, to be on our “invited” list.
Parish hall clean ups continue to be a positive effort and assist our council in financial giving. On November 6th, there is an “Appreciation Dinner for the Sisters,” with approximately 150+ guests, and may include our Bishop, Most Rev. Michael Jackels, in attendance. Our council has chosen to give our services free for this hall
rental. We find it not only honorable but a fitting way to lead by example and to give back to those who lead us in the practice of our faith by the very lives they lead. We are honored to serve them! The office has been notified to omit the clean up charges for this party. We give a “Special Thanks” to Ms. Rose White for all the efforts she has attended to with the parish hall rental, and the information she has helped us with in the past, keeping our crews updated with so many changing hall booking dates. We also welcome Ms. Margot Scobee as the new coordinator! Thanks again Rosie! Looking forward to working with you, Margot!
Another K of C breakfast is coming soon. This one will support our two seminarians in their studies. It is our privilege and honor to give financial aid and any comforts we can to these men, an investment in all of our futures!
